PROCESS & MATERIALS

How is Haley Lebeuf jewelry made?

Each item from Haley Lebeuf is individually handcrafted in the Austin, Texas studio.

We take great pride in the storied tradition of metalsmithing. It is what we love and why we do what we do.

That being said, everything is made in our sweet, little studio using traditional jewelry techniques, such as forging and soldering. We start with the most basic elements and form them to make all the jewelry you can find here. This hands-on approach allows individual changes to be made to nearly every piece. Also, that's why we are able to offer such a wide selection. As one customer quipped after seeing the studio, "you really make it all!" Yep! We do.

We are very proud to offer high-quality American/Texan made jewelry.

What materials or metals do you use?

Our jewelry is crafted from sterling silver and 14 karat gold-fill. In some instances we use vermeil.

Sterling Silver | This alloy is an industry staple. When possible, you will see a .925 stamp indicating sterling silver. This alloy is 925 parts per thousand pure silver. The additional metals in the alloy are there to make this soft metal strong enough to withstand everday wear.

Gold-Fill | This offering has many of the same benefits as gold, without the cost. It is the industry's answer to the higher cost of gold beginning about 2006. It is a great alternative to achieve the beautiful gold color and brilliance or for those with metal sensitivities, while being an affordable investment. Gold-fill jewelry can last 5 to 30 years, even with daily wear. Over years of daily wear, the gold layer will eventually wear away.

When you select "gold-fill" or "yellow gold-fill" in a product description, that means we are using 14 karat gold-fill, also know as 14/20 gold-fill, in the piece. In some instances the piece might be mixed metal, or two-tone. This means that the design might also have some silver incorporated. The item description should list what elements are gold-fill and what are silver.

Simply put, 14/20 gold-fill means that there is a layer of 14k gold wrapped around a base metal core, such as brass. The "14" in 14/20 notes that the gold alloy is 14 karat gold, while "20" means that 14k gold makes up 20% of the weight of the metal.

Vermeil | Pronounced 'ver-may,' this term indicates 14 karat gold plated over sterling silver. The application is a great solution for producing gold pieces when gold-fill is not an option. Our vermeil pieces are thoughtfully designed so you have a long-lasting wear.

There is no nickle in any alloy we use in our jewelry. Premium stuff only!

What stones do you use? What is druzy?

In the Haley Lebeuf line you will mostly see a monotone color palette of stones. This is thoughtfully chosen since black and white are staples of our wardrobes and no matter your skin tone, these stones will look stunning on you.

The stones we offer in our line include black and white druzy, moonstone, hematite, crystal quartz and diamond. Many are custom cut and will only be found in our jewelry.

Druzy | This dazzling stone is a quartz crystal formation commonly formed on top of agates and jaspers. It's a naturally occurring feature; the result of pressure and heat as the rock formed. It is essentially a jewelry-grade geode, where the crystal matrix developed a tiny, uniform structure. The quartz has a Mohs hardness of 7.5, making it great for everyday wear. The small facets of the druzy catch and reflect light to create its dazzling effect.

Designs from Haley Lebeuf featuring the druzy will often be natural, but some stones have been enhanced by dyes or plating to create more unusual or brilliant colors. These enhancements should last the life of your jewelry.

Moonstone | This luminous white stone is often associated with the feminine and fertility. It is said that it produces a calming, loving energy and is associated with the third eye and heart chakras. It is a birthstone associated with people born in June. This feldspar stone has a Mohs hardness of 6 to 6.5.

Hematite | This abundant, iron based mineral has a soft grey luster and has a Mohs hardness of 5 to 6.5. It is said to be a grounding stone that calms one in times of stress, in addition to absorbing negative energy.

Crystal Quartz | This clear stone was chosen by Haley because it closely resembles lucite, one of her favorite interior design elements. The ghost like inclusions in some stones add layered nuisance to this incredible gemstone, creating a very modern feel. It, like the druzy, has a hardness of 7.

Diamond | Tried and true, there is no debating the brilliance of a diamond. It is an incredible stone appreciated by jewelers and patrons alike. This precious gemstone has a Mohs hardness of 10, making it the hardness known mineral. It is April's birthstone and is said to signify purity, love and faithfulness.

Reach out to us if you would like to discuss ordering a different gemstone for one of your favorite designs.
